Vintage hand crafted copper lamp called a “Betty lamp” or “Crusie Lamp” used for indoor lighting before the advent of electricity, especially in non-urban areas where access to more conventional light sources was limited or non-existent. The lamps usually burned animal fat or fish oil, depending on location. This lamp has a hanger and a support for the wick which would have been made of twisted cloth. We believe this particular piece comes from North Africa or the Middle East, where the previous owner, a world traveler, spent many years. The lamp measures 9.25″ tall to the top of the hanger x 3.25″ in diameter x 4″ wide from the back plate to the tip of the spout. Very good vintage condition with nice patina and signs of previous use inside. See photos. [ No. 1] We have two of these, almost identical; the second one is listed separately.
