Vintage framed print under glass of Heidelberg Castle and Bridge watercolor (see history below). The original was signed by the artist (illegible) and the name “Heidelberg” was also written by the artist on the original. “Heidelberg” is also written in pencil on the mat. Really beautiful vibrant colors. We were unable to identify the artist, so we are basing the age on this piece on the style of the frame, which points to the 1950s to 1970s. It has an “antique white” finish with a gold band along the inner perimeter. This is a print from an original watercolor, the pixels visible under magnification–see photos. It measures 11 3/8″ square and is in very good preowned vintage condition; there are a couple of faint water spots along the bottom margin of the mat and some very slight yellowing of the mat. The two white streaks along the bottom left and right corners are reflections. Great addition to the gallery wall, or for shelf styling on an easel. $10 flat rate shipping for street addresses within contiguous United States.

HISTORY (from online sources): Heidelberg Castle (Heidelberger Schloss) is a ruin located 260 feet up the northern side of the Königstuhl hillside. It was built in 1214 and expanded into two castles in 1294. In 1537, a lightning bolt destroyed the upper castle. The present structures had been expanded by 1650, before damage by later wars and fires. In 1764, another lightning bolt caused a fire which destroyed some of the rebuilt sections, and it has only been partially rebuilt. It’s accessible by a funicular railway that runs from Heidelberg’s Kornmarkt to the summit of the Königstuhl. The funicular line can be seen on the right side of the print.
