This mid 20th century marble dust sculpture of a woman and her Borzoi dogs was possibly inspired by French artist Louis Icart’s 1929 “Joie de Vivre” etching–see third image. The “sculpture” appears to have been made in a mold and detail-finished once unmolded. There is wording on the front of the base, but it’s illegible; possibly made in Italy. The woman wears a floppy hat with flowing ribbon and a sheer tunic with bow at the waist. The dogs are beautifully detailed–faces, manes, feet, and tails are all very realistic. The woman’s smile certainly projects the “joie de vivre” depicted in Icart’s work. The figurine measures 9.5″ x 3 1/8″ at the base x 11 5/8″ tall to the top of the hat; overall width is about 12″. Weight is exactly 4 lbs. before packing. Obtained from an estate. Excellent preowned vintage condition; there are pinhead size rust-color spots throughout which appear to have leached out of the stone, but they do not detract.
