Decorative Hunt Motif Oval Casserole with Rabbit Handle on Lid and Rams’ Heads on Sides

Lovely ironstone flow blue decorative terrine dish with hunt motif featuring a rabbit as the lid’s handle, rams’ heads as the dish handles, and raised images of dogs and birds–the hunter and the hunted. Deep blue bands along the base, rim and edge of the lid, as well as on the rams’ heads and rabbit, with the “flow” effect fading to lighter blue, then white. Flow blue originated in the Staffordshire potteries of England and was designed to emulate the so-called Oriental designs of the time; it became wildly popular during the Victorian era both in Europe and America. Our research indicates that this may be a fairly rare item, as we’ve only found a couple of others. The piece isn’t marked, so it’s difficult to date it.  Beautiful showpiece for the buffet or sideboard. See dimensions and condition description below. Â
DIMENSIONS:  Overall” 10.5″ from handle to handle x 6.5″ front to back x about 6.25″ tall to the top of the rabbit’s head. Outed bottom edge:9.75″ x 7″; rim: 9″ x 6 1/8″.
CONDITION: Very good used vintage to antique condition. Note that there are five chips on the underside of the dish’s lip; see photos. This is consistent with age and prior use and to be expected in an old piece like this.
