Product Information

Vintage silver plated “Arcadia” pattern triple candelabra, a pair; modernist 1930s 1847 Rogers Bros. candleholders.  This pair of EPNS (electroplated nickel silver) candelabra was made by the International Silver Co. under the 1847 Rogers Bros. trademark (see history below).  The Arcadia pattern appears to be quite rare, as we only found two or three examples of hollowware (the tea and coffee service is simply stunning), and the only reference to the candelabra was found in an A. I. Hall Wholesale Jewelers Catalog for 1938-1939 (see last photo), where the pattern was described as having “generous proportions, gleaming courtly beauty, and styled for today’s exacting requirements.”  The candelabra came from an estate, and the modernist design makes them timeless, equally at home in a variety of interior styles.   Superb vintage preowned condition.  See photos and use zoom.

MEASUREMENTS: 4 3/8″ tall at center x 9.75″ long side to side x 3 3/8″ wide front to back; interior diameter of sockets is approx. 7/8″; should hold standard tapers.

HISTORY (from online sources): “1847 Rogers Bros” was actually a trademark used starting in 1862.  There were many Rogers names used during the time period in the silver making industry as well.  Some were relatives but many were just anxious to get their brand recognized.  In 1862 Meriden Britannia Company bought the hollowware division, tools and dies from Rogers Brothers Mfg. Co.  Many independent silversmiths joined together with that shop to form International Silver Co. that became the world’s largest manufacturer of silverware.  Rogers 1847 became the trademark of that new firm.  While the firm was a manufacturer, their real genius was their marketing.  They designed and developed silverware patterns on a yearly basis that people wanted on their table and wanted to give as gifts at weddings and many other occasions.  The firm also used the top advertising medium of the time, magazines with great new colors, to push these products.  Silverware patterns such as First Love, Marquise, Adoration, Eternally Yours, Daffodil, Heritage, and Flair became well-known names to households of the mid-twentieth century.  They are still collectible, in demand, and used in decorating today.

    Wonderful experience, meticulous packaging!

I purchased two items from this shop. They arrived surprisingly quickly, and it was evident that extreme care was taken to ensure they arrived safely. I greatly appreciate the attention and extra care when packaging up the items. How sad it would be to purchase an antique that has survived multiple generations, only to be destroyed by USPS! Thank you so much for a wonderful shopping experience!
