Antique 1885 original wood engraving of “Choir and Tower of the Franciscan Church of our Dear Lady in Salzburg,” Austria, signed in the wood by A. Nedelkovits, with certificate of authenticity from Peter Matern, Book and Art Antiquarian, Salzburg (see history below). The certificate of authenticity is taped to the back of the engraving, under the backing, so not visible. The outer mat is new; the brown mat with gold edging is contemporaneous to the CA; and the frame with glass and sawtooth hanger is probably from the 1970s. No dust cover. See below for dimensions and condition.  $9.99 flat rate shipping for street addresses within contiguous United States.

HISTORY (from online sources): The Book and Art Antiquarian Bookshop was founded in 1970 by Peter Matern in the old town of Salzburg. Visitors to Salzburg from all over the world were among the customers who purchased original images of Salzburg and other places, as well as old maps. In 1998, Christiana Matern took over the direction of the book shop, which since 2010 has operated as a mail order company.
The Franciscan Church is one of the oldest churches in Salzburg, Austria. The first church on this site was erected in the eighth century. Between 1408 and 1450, a Gothic choir replaced the Romanesque choir. A slender Gothic tower was added between 1468 and 1498. The church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and served as the parish church until 1635. It was ceded to the Franciscan Order in 1642. The interior of the church was redesigned in the baroque style in the eighteenth century.
