Vignette Styling Essentials

A vignette is a styled collected of grouped items. With styling vignettes are very key to tabletop, bookshelf, consoles, counters, island, desks, and just about anywhere you add decorative touches. A successful vignette is when the group of items compliment one another and allow the eye to feel rested and balanced. The success of a vignette has a lot to do with the way items together feel. I would say my best advice when knowing if it works is how does it make you feel. Your eye should tell you if something feels balanced or not. It does take a bit of the creative skill too, but here are few cheat ways to achieve a vignette and how to create a successful one with vintage items.

Vignette cheat sheet:

#1 Use the odd number rule (3, 5, 7) are the best when it comes to grouping item. Though I love a good pair too, but know when to use them in a space.

#2 Multiple textures is key; glass, ceramic, paper, metal, wood. You should also include a greenery/flower, and natural material to help make a true organically collected feel.

#3 Height, when grouping items start with the tallest in the back or anchoring your vignette on the sides. Also overlapping with the shortest in the front.

#4 Never too much of one item…you will notice right away if a vignette feels off if you have maybe too much glass or the same color.

#5 Use complimenting and contrasting colors and bounce this around multiple times in the display.
