Styles are constantly evolving whether it is in fashion or home design. We are influenced by our economy, politics, the cycle of the generational trend, pop culture, and both high end fashion and street fashion have a lot to do with how we incorporate our changing trendy styles. What is funny is though “trend” sounds like something that would be a quick “new” look to the market, it can actually be traditional or classic looks too that find their way back to the “trending” current style. One of which is VINTAGE! We noticed how much vintage has become popular in the interior world and fashion world (our reason for starting VK). The classic looks and quality pieces are what people are desiring in this mass produced market. One of which has effected how designers are incorporating to their designs and we are especially noticing this in artwork!
Designer Looks in Art:
Since this is a “homeowner” focused platform I want to share some “achievable” looks that designers are using in their own designs to help you select artwork for your own home and how to get that designer look with pieces you can buy right here on VK!

As you can see above artwork with amazing portraits, large, small, gallery walls, framed, unframed, leaned up on a counter, or hung a on a wall. Each one draws the eye to it and gives a space personality. I also really love that each room is different. You can take a simple styled space or find something that has a little more of a collected feel and bring vintage art to a space to add more dimension and eye candy.
Why vintage art?
Well, not only is vintage art “trending” but it creates a curated “I found this piece” look. When shopping for items at a store with repro art, you’ll end up with what everyone has in their home and doesn’t feel as much of a curated look anymore. Sure you can mix your art with both old and new but there is nothing quite like an original piece that you can see real brush strokes, signature, and curiosity. I mean, it shows your home this...why did she pick up this piece? look When your guests walk through your home they can be intrigued with the art that attracts your eye not just a piece that you bought because it needed to fill a space.
What types of art to shop for?
When it comes to vintage art most importantly when decorating your home you want to start with something that really catches your eye. That’s probably one of the most exciting parts to decorating is finding art, because it is personal. It could be anything from something nostalgic, to the object painted, the color, where you found it, the frame it has, how it mixes or matches with your home and other artwork, and so much more! If you live somewhere coastal or desire to, you might be bringing in sailboats and nautical art. Maybe its a Victorian era that you are really attracted to so garden scenes and women dressed in corsets bring you to an era you desire to live in. Is it a destination you love to travel to or an interesting person in a portrait that their eyes or clothing (or lack of) speaks to you. I will say something for me when I look for art I want something that resembles a European feel, I always love a moody backdrop, and true character of a piece that’s been around for a while. When it comes to frames I love both frameless for a canvas and also a great antique gold frame.
