This pair of cast iron bookends likely dates from the early 1900s. They are in the shape of a shield or crest set on a platform and feature scroll embellishments throughout with a red-and-green diagonal band. There are blue, green and red highlights on the raised areas. Each bookend measures 5.75″ tall x 5-1/4″ across x 1-7/8″ front to back. The backs are painted gold and the undersides are lined with the original green felt. They are in excellent structural condition with no chips or breaks. There is other wear on the finish, as well as dust on the crevices, consistent with age and previous use, but nothing that detracts–I haven’t cleaned them and I’m selling them as found. I’ve only found one other set exactly like this one listed elsewhere for $395. Great set for shelf styling and bookshelf/library organization.
