Hand painted hanging display shelf with Asian motifs, open fretwork sides, and black, red and gold accents

This vintage hand painted chinoiserie wall shelf will make a fantastic addition to an eclectic interior for display of curios or special mementos. An estate piece, it features traditional Asian elements and settings on the crown and bottom section. People, including a courting couple, dwellings, foot bridges, trees, and flowers are highlighted in black, red and gold. The wood is lightweight and appears to have been first given a skim coat of plaster or gesso (some of it is showing through along the edges–see condition description below), then painted to create the appearance of wood grain. Open fretwork makes up the sides; and thin black lines frame the entire shelf. Gold brocade fabric was used as the backing facing the viewer. A hanging wire is attached to the back, which is covered in craft paper. See dimensions and condition description below.
APPROX. DIMENSIONS: Overall: 34.5″ long x 15 5/8″ across x 8 5/8″ deep; distance between top and middle shelves: 11.25″; distance between middle and bottom shelves: 10 5/8″; depth of shelves: 8″; length of shelves: 15″ Weight before packing: 7.6 lbs. We’re estimating shipping weight at 12 lbs.
CONDITION: Very good preowned vintage condition. As mentioned, some of the underlying plaster or gesso is showing through the paint along the edges; a repair with touchup at the very bottom is shown in the next-to-last photo. Feel free to ask any questions.
