Vintage lion bookends by Borghese (history below) in beautiful black and gold. The gold lions sit on a mottled black plinth that resembles granite, accented with gold details. Very detailed, realistic and stately. They measure 6.5″ x 7″ x 5-5/8″ and combined weight is 6 lbs. 11 oz. One of the bookends has a repair; a few small nicks–priced accordingly. Great addition to the library.

HISTORY (from online sources): Borghese figurines and decorative items were manufactured in the USA by Niepold’s, Inc., of Gaithersburg, Maryland, starting in the early 1900s and continuing until the early 1970s, and distributed to dealers throughout the United States by Charles Hall, Inc. They are made of cast plaster, also known as chalkware or plaster of Paris and often painted to look like antiques, often with shading techniques to imitate wear from aging. They are not Italian.
