Pair of vintage decoupaged wall medallions. Made by Clifford Art Studios of New York, the medallions feature black-and-white portraits of a Greco-Roman a warrior and perhaps a nobleman decoupaged against a copper-leaf background on the reverse of a convex glass. The round frames are painted black and each has a fancy antiqued metal hanger with bows and a hole for a nail. Notice the decorative details on the soldier’s helmet and breastplate and in the nobleman’s hair. There are several variations of this style of wall plaque produced by Clifford, but this exact combination of a Greco-Roman motif with black frame and long metal hangers is unique and this set is pretty rare. Labels on the back read “Style # C-51 – DECOUPAGE – A decorative art or craft which may have originated in France in the late 17th century. It is a cutout used to make pictures or the decorating of surfaces to simulate painting. Clifford Art Studios, Inc., N.Y.C.” See below for dimensions and condition.

MEASUREMENTS: 8.25″ long x 4.5″ diameter x about 1 1/8″ thick
CONDITION: Very good preowned vintage condition with some scuffs on the wood consistent with age. There appears to have been a beaded detail surrounding the glass, but it’s missing. Glass is intact on both pieces.
