Vintage Colorful Toy Soldier Highball Glasses by Cera Set of Six

Set of six (6) vintage toy soldier drinking glasses by Cera Glassware (see history below).  Charming motif for a children’s holiday party or adult costume party.  Fairly rare and complete set.  Colorful and festive.  See dimensions and condition description below.  

DIMENSIONS:   6.25″ tall x 2 7/8″ diameter at the rim x 2.5″ diameter at the base; capacity: 1.5 cups (12 fl oz)

CONDITION: Very good used vintage condition; no chips or cracks.  There are a few very minor flaws consistent with previous use, but nothing that detrats; see last photo.

HISTORY (from online sources): Anthony Velonis (1911-1997) was an American painter and designer born in New York who helped introduce the public to silkscreen printing in the early 20th century.  While employed under the federal Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression, Velonis brought the use of silkscreen printing as a fine art form, referred to as the “serigraph,” into the mainstream.  By his own request, he was not publicly credited for coining the term.  In 1940,  Velonis and Hyman Warsager founded the Ceraglass Company, a silkscreening firm intended to experiment with silkscreen prints on glass and plastic.  Over time, the company grew and completed larger-scale works for organizations such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tiffany’s, and the now-defunct Hyperion Press.  Eventually, such outreach led to expansion into the glass industry. Velonis and Warsager were partners and operated Ceraglass and a related company called Ceragraphic until they sold the firm to VCA Corporation in 1969.
