Red and white Transferware plate made by GJ (George Jones) Pottery.
I believe that this version of the crescent back stamp dates the plate to between 1881 -1891.
The place is in excellent condition for its age with only discoloration on the back. The front of the plate has a couple places where some loose clay was glazed over – this is what I love most about old ironstone – they aren’t really ever perfect.
This is a dinner sized plate and would look pretty hung on the wall or displayed on a side board.
10 3/8 inches across diameter.
