Vintage lithographic print of Heidelberg Castle from bridge by Adolphe Jean Baptiste Bayot, engraver/printmaker (1810 – 1866) and Louis-Pierre-Alphonse Bichebois (1801 – ??) after a drawing by French artist Jean-Baptiste Chapuy (1760 – 1802), originally printed by Goupil & Vibert, Paris. The original was first published in 1844 and measured 15.75″ x 22.5″. This version, professionally mounted on Masonite and covered with paper on the back with string hanger, measures 14-5/16″ x 10.25″ and likely dates from the first half of the 20th century. Lovely monochromatic tone variations with the castle seen in the upper left, almost like an apparition, and the bridge gate commanding the background on the right. Exceptional detail throughout–a variety of architectural styles and charming details of daily life taking place on the bridge. The print is ready to hang or frame; can also be displayed on an easel. Excellent preowned vintage condition–there are a couple of light blue-color pencil marks which can be seen on closeup in the second image–very faint.
