Mid-Century ironstone salad plates in superb condition, classic and timeless design for everyday or formal occasions

Set of five (5) vintage ironstone salad plates by the Red-Cliff Company (see history below) in the “Grape” pattern. The grape-and-vine design is executed in high relief around the border of the plates. There are two different backstamps on this set; four are marked “RED-CLIFF Ironstone Fine China”; the remaining one is marked with an “RC” within a rectangle and the words “RED-CLIFF Ironstone Fine China ‘Grape.'” The plates measure 8 3/8″ in diameter . All the plates are in superb preowned condition with no damage whatsoever and virtually no utensil marks–a couple of the plates have a tiny black dot on the surface, original to the manufacturing process. Add as completer pieces to a Red-Cliff set; mix and match with other ironstone pieces; or start a new collection. Very versatile and at home in a variety of decor styles. See photos and use zoom. HISTORY (from online sources): The Red Cliff Co. was established in Chicago in 1950 and was owned and operated by Fred Clifford until around 1977. The firm was a china decorating and distributing company that produced decorated ironstone pieces patterned after traditional ironstone designs and shapes. The china decorated by the Red Cliff Co. was manufactured by other firms, such as the Hall China Co., which supplied traditional-shaped ironstone to be embellished with, for example, the popular “Tea Leaf” design (which in the mid 20th century was a reproduction of a 19th century pattern).
