Vintage art pottery indoor planter by Fratelli Fanciullacci, made in Italy (see history below). Made of terracotta, the planter is finished with a delicious yellow glaze. There are applied flowers encircling the lower portion, and extending upward from the rim is a stunning “crown” featuring twisted oval loops accented with the same flowers. No drain hole. Visually stunning and in excellent used vintage condition with one small nick on one of the flowers and crazing consistent with age–see photos. Marked on the bottom “Made in Italy” with a production number and the “FF” for Fratelli Fanciullacci. Based on research, this planter dates from after 1966 and before 1988, when the company closed. Fanciullacci pottery has become very collectible and is commanding high prices. The list price here is far below the average.

HISTORY (from online sources): The Fanciullacci pottery was founded in 1862 on the small island Capraia, north of Elba, between Corsica and Italy. Around 1911 they moved the factory to Montelupo, this to be able to distribute their wares by rail more easily. Their 1914 catalogue shows more than 1000 different models. The company produced ceramics in many different styles and followed the trends and tastes of the time closely. In 1966 the decision was made to expand and open an additional factory in Florence, which proved to be fatal; the demand for ceramics was stagnating in Europe and the good times were over. The artistic quality was lost and all activity ceased in 1988. Aldo Londi worked for Fanciullacci before moving to Bitossi in 1935. Some other ceramists who worked for Fanciullacci are Vincenzo Ossani, Lorenzo and Giovacchino Canneri, Dino & Mario Scappini, Bruno Bagnoli, and Benvenuto Staderini.
