Add old world artistic elegance to your home with this beautiful original winged cherub sculpture. This unique piece has evidence of being sculpted by hand, including fingerprints, making it a one-of-a-kind item that is perfect for any collector. Please note we did not see an artist signature. We are told this piece was brought back Italy in the 1950’s, but have not been able to date it. Our cherub has a sweet face, beautifully detailed wings and curls in his hair. We believe this piece is made of plaster, weighing 2.75 pounds . This piece will lend a timeless look to your home.
A bit of history, plaster has been used for centuries, actually dating back to 7000BC, pioneered by Egyptians. Plaster is a mixture of lime, sand or cement, and water that hardens as it dries. It’s used as a building material for in frescos and decorative features on walls and ceilings. For centuries, sculptors have also used plaster as a procedural material for making molds before executing a final artwork in more permanent mediums like bronze. This very possibly could have been part of a larger feature or as a model for a bronze sculpture. There is hole from the top of the head to the back, ready for a wire to hang, otherwise it would be lovely as a shelf item.
