Antique Haviland Limoges Old Paris Style Dessert Plates and Cake Plate Ca. 1920s

THIS LISTING:  Four dessert plates (7 3/8″ diameter; one small chip on underside) and cake plate (9.25″ diameter).  No visible marks. Lovely gold details serve as “handles.”  Very good used antique condition; one of the plates has a touchup along the rim, about an inch long; a couple of tiny dark spots original to the firing; not detrimental.  See listing photos.

LISTED SEPARATELY:

• 2 cups (2.5″ tall x 3″ diameter; 4 oz. capacity), 2 saucers (5.75″ diameter), 2 dessert plates (7 3/8″ diameter).  No visible marks. Excellent used antique condition; no cracks or chips; some minor wear to gold.
• Lidded coffee or teapot (8″ tall x 9.5: spout to handle) with separate underplate (7 3/8″ diameter); capacity: 6+ cups.  No visible marks.  The teapot has built in strainer holes inside and the lid has an inner stop that keeps it in place when pouring.  Lovely beaded details on finial and thumbpiece.  Very good used antique condition; minor wear to the gold; teapot has a touchup at the top of the spout (the cutout at the bottom of the spout may be a “repair” to a chip), make-do repairs along the underside edge, a nick on the lid’s stop, as well as a tiny black (or gold) spot original to the piece; priced accordingly.
• Large lidded sugar bowl (6.5″ tall x about 5.5″ at widest point) with separate underplate 7 3/8″ diameter). Lovely beaded details on finial and handles.  Sugar bowl marked “H&Co.” Excellent used antique condition.  Very faint “smudge” on one side; tiny dark spot along the foot original to the piece.
• Large cream pitcher ( 5.5″ tall x 5″ spout to handle); capacity: 2 cups, with separate underplate (saucer) (5.5″ diameter). Lovely beaded detail on thumbpiece.  Pitcher marked “H&Co.”  Excellent used antique condition.

HISTORY (from online sources): Haviland & Co. was started in 1840 in Limoges, France, not by Frenchmen but by the American Haviland family, importers of porcelain to the US, which has always been its main market.  Its finest period was during the late 19th century–a set of china was produced for the Lincoln White House.  The company is still run by members of the Haviland family.  You can read the rest of the fascinating history here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haviland_%26_Co.
