Antique lithographic prints of early Victorian portraits of Jenny Lind (1846) and “Southern Belle” (1850) by German artists Eduard Magnus and Erich Correns, respectively. Framed under glass in oval frames with embellishments typical of the second half of the 19th century, the prints likely date from the late 1800s to very early 1900s. The frames have gilded accents around the opening, dust covers and hanging wires. Sold as a pair. See below for dimensions, condition, and history. HISTORY (from online sources):
Eduard Magnus (1799 – 1872) was a German painter who was for a time the preeminent portrait painter in Berlin. Jenny Lind (1820 1887) was a Swedish opera singer, often called the “Swedish Nightingale.” Her portrait by Magnus was painted in 1846, when Jenny was 26 years old.
Erich Correns (1821 – 1877) was a German portrait painter and lithographer who was well known for the elegance of his portraits. His subjects included King Maximillian of Bavaria and his consort, Queen Maria. His “Southern Belle” was painted in 1850.
