Set of two vintage book-shaped Florentine boxes in two sizes. The larger one measures 11″ x 8″ x 1-7/8″ and the smaller one measures 9-1/8″ x 6-3/8″ x 2-7/8″. The boxes are made of wood with a gesso skim coat and gilded finish. They feature raised “straps” secured by metal studs mimicking the binding on medieval books. Nicely detailed with realistic gilded “page” edges. Both boxes have ornate etched designs throughout and are marked “Made in Italy” on the underside (one is illegible). The larger box also has the “Florentia Decorative Craft Hand Made in Italy” sticker inside the lid. Interiors are painted yellow and lids open almost flat. Both show wear consistent with age and previous use, creating great patina and character. These are great for keeping small electronics, such as remotes and phones out of sight. Also perfect as keepsake or jewelry boxes or styled on a bookshelf among antique books. Sold as a set.
