Vintage to antique metal pincushion in the shape of a duck, souvenir from the Tower Building, Cleveland, Ohio, marked ©JB (possibly Jennings Brothers). The pincushion appears to be made from pewter and measures 3.5″ long x 2-1/8″ tall. The fabric, originally velvet, is well worn. The metal has a nice patina and is in very good condition. I like to think that the pincushion is a souvenir from the building’s grand opening in 1928 or from someone’s visit to the observation deck. See history below.

HISTORY (from online sources): Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Company was founded in 1891 in Bridgeport, CT. The company produced some of the finest metal pieces ever made during the Arts and Crafts period. Their methods were exacting and their designs painstakingly detailed. They employed artists, sculptors, and metal smiths, all experts in their fields. The company was sold some time in the 20th century.
The Tower Building is a 52-storey building in Cleveland built to serve as offices for the Cleveland Union Station. When completed in 1927 it was the second-tallest building in the world, and it stood as the tallest building in North America outside of New York City until 1967. There’s also an observation deck where, on a clear day, visitors can see 30 miles from downtown Cleveland. It’s now part of the Tower City Center mixed-use development, its lower 11 floors having been converted to residential use.
