This delicately carved bust depicts a young girl with softly styled hair and classical drapery across the shoulders with light veining. Created from translucent alabaster, the sculpture showcases the refined craftsmanship popular in decorative arts of the late 19th to early 20th century. Alabaster was a favored medium for its smooth texture and luminous quality, allowing artisans to render fine details with a sense of warmth and realism. Often made in Italy, such portrait busts were commonly sold as decorative objects or Grand Tour souvenirs, intended to bring a sense of neoclassical refinement into the home. The serene expression and timeless styling reflect the influence of ancient Greco-Roman sculpture, reinterpreted through a romantic, Victorian-era lens. The sculpture measures 6.75″ tall x 5.75″ x 3.5″ at the base and weighs just under 4 lbs. Very good preowned vintage to antique condition with a few minor nicks consistent with age and prior use. Lovely shelf-styling piece or addition to a collection of classical busts or sculptures.
