Vintage Swedish Encyclopedia [Svensk Uppslagsbok–see history below],Volumes 12 and 17, copyright 1935, half leather and marbled boards. Top edges are dark brown and spines have gold lettering. Each volume is lavishly with photographs and foldouts, both in black-and-white and color. They measure 9.75″ x 7″ x 1.75″ and are in very good preowned vintage condition with some shelf wear and scuffs consistent with age and prior handling, but nothing major; pages are clean and intact. Great for shelf styling.

HISTORY (from online sources): The first edition was started in 1929 by Baltiska förlaget AB, but the operation was taken over in 1931 by the company Svensk uppslagsbok AB. The work comprises 30 volumes and a supplementary volume. The preface in the first volume is dated February 1929. The publication competed with the third edition of Nordisk familjebok (concentrated, 1923–1937) and the preface justifies it as follows: ‘[there are already several . . . but what is missing is] the large, comprehensive work, prepared by specialists, published at such a price that no one need hesitate about the possibility of acquiring it because of the cost.’
