Vintage museum reproduction portrait bust of Hygieia, goddess of health and hygiene made by Austin Productions and dated 1963. The bust is made of Durastone, a special formulation of crushed stone which is processed in a slurry and then slowly poured into the mold previously prepared with a steel armature. The original marble bust of Hygieia dating from 350 to 325 BC (which falls within the late classical period of Greek art) was excavated in Tegea, Arkadia, and is currently in the National Archeological Museum in Athens, Greece (link below). This bust is set onto a wooden block. Beautifully detailed and faithfully replicated; it even has a tiny indentation on the tip of the nose and slightly pitted surface, just like the original–and it’s the same size. Nice patina with a very authentic look. Fantastic piece for shelf styling or library decor. See below for dimensions and condition.
