Vintage oval wall plaque with gilded finish featuring a porcelain Fragonard courting couple medallion with ornate metal surround on a velvet background. The frame is made of wood with “pie crust” edging, gesso skim coat and gold paint. The flat surface of the frame is covered in an olive green velvet on which is set an ornate metal interior frame with black velvet ground onto which is set a porcelain courting couple medallion by Fragonard. She’s seated and holds a basket of flowers in her lap; he’s standing and is serenading her accompanied by a musical instrument, while she offers him a flower. Overall measurements are 9 7/8″ x 7 7/8″; the frame is 1 1/8″ thick. The back is covered in a Kraft-type paper dust cover and includes a paper label indicating order number, pattern, size, etc. Sawtooth hanger at the top. Condition is very good for age; the gilded area, as well as the edging, of the frame show some paint loss and scuffs, which add to the vintage authenticity–see photos. Great addition to a gallery wall or French-inspired decor.
