Vintage Indian Rosewood Three-Tiered Pastry or Appetizer Tray

Very beautiful and unusual three-tier tray made of Indian Rosewood and inlaid with bone in a floral and geometric motif.  The tray has three round “plates” that fold up and are stored within the round frame.  The bottom stand swivels parallel to the frame in the closed position and perpendicular to the frame with the trays opened.  In the closed position, the trays are secured by wooden tabs at the top, although the two bottom trays are a tight fit and hard to open when fully closed.  We recommend leaving them just slightly ajar at the top to facilitate opening.  To open, leave the swivel stand in its position parallel to the frame, lower the two side trays, then lower the middle tray and insert the metal pin through the frame to stabilize, lift the side trays and place the swivel in a position perpendicular to the frame to support the side plates.  This tray came from the estate of a US Air Force veteran who served all over the world from the 1970s through 1990s.  See dimensions and condition description below.  

APPROX. DIMENSIONS:   Closed: 9.75″ tall x 8″ diameter; fully open: 14.5″ long x 8″ wide; each plate measures 8 3/8″ in diameter.

CONDITION: Very good used vintage condition with some scuffs and scratches consistent with age and previous use.  It will be conditioned with food safe oil before shipping, and regular treatment will maintain the wood’s richness.  As mentioned, the two side trays are a tight fit and leaving them unlatched and not quite even with the frame will facilitate opening.  The metal pin is not original.  This being a hand crafted item, there’s a bit of a wobble to the stand, but it stabilizes once items are placed on the trays.  Feel free to ask any questions or request additional photos before purchasing.
