Vintage decoupaged Florentine box with Byzantine-style iconography on lid and carved designs throughout. The box is made of wood with a gesso skim-coat, gilded, and painted with green accents. The interior (bottom) is covered in green felt. The decoupaged image features 10 pictures of saints, as well as scrolls resembling gilded relief, all in the Byzantine style. The underside is marked “Made in Italy. This is an older box, likely dating from the mid-1900s. It measures 9.5″ x 4.25″ x 1.75”. It’s in very good used vintage condition, with signs of age and previous use: shelf wear, minor chipping of the gilded finish, and a small torn area on the decoupaged image. Great shelf-styling piece or unique storage solution for remotes, phone chargers, desk accessories, etc.
