Reproduction of a Mexican Olmec head figure. The Olmec civilization is believed to have existed between 1200 and 400 B.C., and was located along Mexico’s Gulf Coast in what is now Tabasco and Veracruz. The Olmec Colossal Heads were first discovered in 1938, and there are 17 heads total. I believe this to be a reproduction of one of the Olmec heads, or at least done in that style. Marked “Mexico” on the bottom, but there are no other marks or signatures. This head figure appears to be made out of terra cotta or clay. There are a few small nicks, but overall in great condition. Such a cool piece with fascinating history!
