(3) Primitive Apiary Pieces from the Estate of an Avid Beekeeper and Collector.

#1. A Primitive Beehunting Box
The hunting box was used to temporarily capture and then release honey bees in order to “line” or locate the beehive nest usually found in a hollow tree in the woods. Such boxes are often mistakenly called queen bee boxes, but only field worker bees are really used in bee lining. There is a sliding paddle to keep bees separated in each compartment. The larger top paddle slides off completely to let the bees out.
This is a rare and wonderful antique primitive bee hunting box. The Hunting box is 11″ H x 5″ W x 3″ D

#2. A Primitive Queen Bee Observation Box (the smaller box)
This is a wonderful queen bee observation/ transporter box with the original glass. There is a side paddle to separate bees and 2 top paddles. To let the bees out
Note: see pic there is a crack in the lower right corner, however, this original glass is intact
The Queen bee box is 6.5″ H x 4″ W x 4″ D

#3. A Primitive Hive Smoker.
This unique smoker is made out of metal with a wood base and leather bellows An appraiser shared that most likely this smoker came out of Ohio. The smoker is 8″ L x 7″ H x 5″ D
