Mid century modern teapot by Ernest Sohn (see history below) in the “Octagon” pattern. The teapot is embellished with gold bands along the rim and on the handle and has a gold metal knob on the lid. It sits on a heavy metal stand with tealight holder. The pattern was issued in 1952 and has been discontinued. Beautiful modern but timeless design. See below for measurements and condition.

MEASUREMENTS: Height on stand to tip of knob: 8.75″ – spout to handle: 12.5″ – stand: 4.5″ x 9″ – capacity: 3.5 cups
CONDITION: Very good preowned and used vintage condition; clean inside; color variations on the gold; tiny nick on tip of spout; some discoloration on the metal stand–nothing that detracts.
HISTORY (from online sources): Ernest Sohn was born in Belgium in 1913. He emigrated to the United States in 1936. After years of working for other firms, he formed Ernest Sohn Creations, Inc., in the mid-50s, becoming a pioneer in the gift industry. His work brought elegance to both casual and formal dining. His tag line was “useful and decorative.” He concentrated on chafing dishes, coffee urns, informal buffet services, and lazy Susans (the “Lazy Daizy” was one of his most popular designs). He was a prolific designer and enjoyed mixing metal, wood, and ceramic for dramatic effect (his ceramic parts were manufactured by Hall China), garnering Good Design awards from MOMA in the 1950s. His wares were sold out of his own showroom on Fifth Avenue and in high-end stores such as B. Altman and Marshal Field. His pieces are highly sought after today.
