Small turquoise dresser clock and music box, probably mid Twentieth Century. Ornate shape with gold embellishment around the edges. More simple folk art florals on the base.The clock was made by Staiger with a Swiss Thorens movement. The shell is most likely a hard plastic; Staiger specialized in injection molding for clock cases after WWII. It has an enamel-look. The label on the bottom says it plays the Cuckoo Waltz. The clock is a winding clock and I believe the music box plays as an “alarm.” I am always worried about overwinding clocks like this, so I am not sure how long it will run, but it seems to have kept time overnight for me. I wasn’t sure how the “music box” worked, and in fact thought it was broken, but this morning it started playing and I think it was in sync with the alarm hand of the clock. I have not totally figured out how to operate and really feel more comfortable right now selling this as a purely decorative piece. It would be so sweet on a table or bookshelf, night table, or dresser.
The little clock measures approximately 4.5 inches tall, 3.25 inches wide, and about 1.75 inches deep. There is some gold loss on the edges shown in gallery photos.
