Antique bronzed spelter lamp, originally mounted to a newel post at the foot of the stairs in late-Victorian and Edwardian-era homes. The lamp features a young woman holding a star and standing atop a lion. A metal plaque on the wooden portion of the base reads “Le Pouvoir” (“The Power”). The upright features stamped metal leaves. The figure is one of several versions issued during this period representing various allegorical subjects (Force, Work, Liberty, etc.). Some of the sculptures are signed; others aren’t. Some are French; this one was made in Germany (stamped on the underside of the wooden portion of the base (no longer visible but pictured in photos) and on the lion. The lamp has been converted for tabletop use and includes some added vintage and new components; priced accordingly. See below for details.

MEASUREMENTS: 22″ tall x 10.5″ at widest point (leaf to tip of shade) x 4″ diameter at the base; cord is 11+ feet long; weight: 3 lbs. 12 oz.
CONDITION: The lamp is in excellent working condition. The original components of the lamp (wooden base, sculpture, wire tube and leaves) show wear consistent with 100+ years of life. The female figure had become detached from the upright tube at some point long ago and was reattached with copper wire which is still present; the figure is now also permanently secured to the upright tube. There’s a hairline crack on the wooden base, as well as scuffs and color variations throughout. None of this detracts from appearance or interferes with use but rather adds to the antique authenticity. NOTE: The slender nature of the lamp and various repairs require careful handling.
