Early 1900s hand-colored print after “Lady with Fan,” an oil-on-canvas work by Abel Faivre (French, 1867 – 1945), completed in 1901 and exhibited at the Salon de la Société des artistes français – Galeries nationales du Grand Palais, Paris. The French title is La Femme à l’éventail and depicts a lady seated before a backdrop featuring the tower of a castle on the right and a ship on the left (both details are very faint on this print). She wears an enormous periwig with beribboned and feathered headdress; she holds a fan and is dressed in an off-the-shoulder floral gown. The wooden frame (with glass) has an unusual grain suggesting an exotic wood–or it may even be faux grained. It measures 12-1/8″ x 9.5″ overall, has a thin gold inner molding and a wooden backing (the hanging wire will be reattached before shipping). The print measures 9″ x 6.25″. Overall very good preowned antique condition with minor nicks on the fame’s two bottom corners. Great addition to a gallery wall or dressing room.
