19th Century German Portrait of a Lady

19th century oil on canvas painting of an older lady. This painting was formerly owned by only one family who were from Germany. The family was descended from German Emperor Wilhelm ll and who also owned a salt mine in the Black Forest in Southwest Germany. The family, as I was told by the auctioneer on behalf of the family’s estate, took the painting with them and smuggled it into the US during WWll.

The painting itself is in excellent condition! It was well preserved and well taken care of. The frame is cracking in various locations and one corner had fallen off and has been glued back on- see photos. No visible signature could be located.

On the back of the canvas stretcher there is writing that looks to say, “from Dr. Laurent”. But it’s up for discussion.

Painting measures:
With frame 23” h x 21” w
Without 18” x 15”
