Designer Keepers- Deb Foglia

December 2, 2022

Our bi-monthly series of designer Keepers has been so fun to dive into and discuss some of my favorite homes on the web with some fav designers and stylist. Thankful to my décor friends who were open to sharing their homes with us and to talk about the vintage treasures and finds. Today we are going to be doing the same but covering MY HOME! If you are not familiar with me, I’m Deb the creator of Vintage Keepers. I started my blog seekinglavenderlane.com a almost ten years ago and in that time I have learned and grown in my styling abilities. Though I feel like my home is always a work in progress I have come to “find” my style and allow it to grow with the season I’m in, trends I’ve become to love, and mostly with a lot of great vintage scores. If it wasn’t for vintage I don’t think I would have truly come to find my taste and style. So, today I’ll share a bit of my home with you all here and a little background on my fav finds and style advice.

Tell us about you, your personal design style, and your home

I’m Deb Foglia, the founder of Vintage Keepers and blogger behind Seeking Lavender Lane. I live in NJ with my two kids, hubby, our dog, and 6 ducks. We renovated our house about 5 years ago from a foreclosure to a open-concept Farmhouse style home. From there I started to really dive into my style and learn my current taste and design abilities. My style is a combination of what I like to call, European-Equestrian-Eclectic. I truly love the Old world feel of European homes. with the collected feel of a lived in space and the old world architecture. I have called my style in our current home, European Farmhouse because our home has this casual lived in feel of a farmhouse and I truly love the look and feel of a home that functions as a farmhouse. Though I could totally find myself loving something a little more formal too at times, I think I am most comfortable in a home that does have that farmhouse feel, but with a true authentic farmhouse-not the commercialized version we saw trending a few years back. I also say equestrian because I adore equestrian details especially with vintage finds. A great horse painting, sculpture, equestrian hat, and prints totally tug at my heart. I think what is nice that equestrian feel really does tie back into the farmhouse but with a little more formality to it, so it makes a ton of sense why my taste can be swayed by equestrian elements. Lastly, I say eclectic because I do love a mix of a few different elements in my home. I try to always shop for what I LOVE! I share that advice all the time when it comes to your home, sure it should all connect and feel cohesive but add items that do so with a, I LOVE attitude. Don’t just grab things because you need something for that corner or wall. Fall in love with the items in your home and if you don’t then its time to sell them and find something you do!

What is your favorite piece in your home?

My favorite piece in our home besides my fireplace which is not store bought that was built, is the pine cabinet piece that we have in our hallway. It will probably be a piece I keep forever! I removed some of the drawers to keep it feeling lighter on the wall and I love to be able to style the shelves and use the drawers for storage. Its truly a beautiful- heave-heavy piece of furniture.

Why do you love decorating with vintage and is there something that you collect?

I love decorating with vintage because vintage tells a story. Just like so many of our other Designer Keepers features have said too. I think not only does it tell a story, but it also feels collected and special. I can’t appreciate a store bought piece of furniture anymore, unless of course its paired with some vintage. I do believe a good balance of new and old is a good thing for a home. As for collection I currently collect copper for our kitchen and pantry I just love the timelessness of copper and truly believe it makes a home feel more European.

What is the best advice you can give to others to achieve the same look?

For me its all about again falling in love with items. If you are trying to add elements to your home like mine I would say black furniture pieces are always a good accent, pedestal tables, oil paintings, neutral colors, texture, and subtle ways of adding patterns. I do love diamond/harlequin patterns they feel very classic, neutral rugs or vintage rugs, and of course light fixtures that also resemble a more classic European home style. A few favorite pieces I am always looking for is great authentic art, pottery, sculptures, brass, and great books (especially love green ones).

Is there anything you are currently on the hunt for, for your home?

I am currently searching for the perfect vintage coffee table for our lounge and a stone mantel so we can re-do our primary fireplace.

I hope you all enjoyed a peak into my home and style advice, here are some of my favorite pieces from the shop that you can add similar style to your home. Also, I have my own vintage shop on here, lavender lane market, to check out.
